A radio drama based on the 2006 book The Shepherds' Prayer: A Christmas Novel by Richard M. Barry (RM Barry Publications) will air on more than 1,200 stations nationwide this holiday season, including Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.

A fictional account of the lives of the shepherds from the nativity story, the book was the subject of a Christmas Day 2006 "Breakpoint" radio program. Well-known author and radio commentator Charles Colson called the book "imaginative," and it "reminds us of perhaps how we often react to the difficult and painful circumstances in our lives."

The radio drama was written by Dave Arnold ("Adventures in Odyssey") and produced by Todd Busteed, producer and director of the "Left Behind" dramatic audio series. Joel McCabe, general manager of RM Barry Publications, said the company hopes the book will be "an evergreen title" that customers and retailers will return to season after season. He also expected more stations to sign up to air the drama, which could be an annual Christmas season broadcast.

The Shepherds' Prayer is available through STL Distribution North America in both hardcover and audiobook. The first two chapters of both the book and audiobook are available on the Web site shepherdsprayer.com. The company has no immediate retail plans for the audio drama.
