Re:zound has performed in Vietnam-becoming the first Christian band to play in the country after receiving permission from the authorities of the communist nation, according to the band's independent music label, Vertical Shift Records. During the group's Asia tour last year, Re:zound played before more than 10,000 people during a two-night concert, which was televised live nationally to millions via the government's television network. "Since most of those in attendance had some understanding of English, I spoke slowly and clearly, not wanting to rely on the translator as I invited the people to receive Jesus, to make him Lord and believe that He died and rose from the dead," recalled Re:zound frontman Jason Anderson. "After I asked 'Who received the Lord tonight?' everyone as far as I could see lifted their hands and cheered," he added. "Vietnamese history was changed that night. We were told by the people that this (was) the first time in the nation's history that people publicly worshiped God and that the gospel was preached in public and on television." On March 11, Vertical will release Abandoned to You (EMI CMG), Re:zound's latest album. The band's single, "Angel," topped MTV's undiscovered charts at No. 1 in 2001. |
