The distributors of a new DVD that has won warm reviews for its spiritual themes have issued a statement they hope may appease retailers who might be reluctant to carry the title because of apparent profanity.

MTI Home Video said that a word used by one of the characters in the newly released 48 Angels, a PG-13 drama set in Ireland, was "not a curse word in the U.S. or Ireland, but rather what one would say instead of using a curse word."

MTI publicist Ed Baran issued the clarification after the Dove Foundation declined to give the film its "seal of approval" because of the language, he said, adding that he hoped that the misunderstanding prompted by the Irish accent would not be a stumbling block for people.

Centering on the journey of a 9-year-old boy with a terminal illness who sets off to find God, 48 Angels was described by Variety magazine as a drama that "tackles issues of faith in a thoughtful and entertaining manner."
