Revised Donald Miller books forthcoming Print Email

Howard Books is releasing Father Fiction, a revised and expanded version of Donald Miller's To Own a Dragon, next month.

The original book, released in 2006 by NavPress, sold 81,000 copies and centered on Miller's childhood without a father. Father Fiction features 30% new material, including an account of Miller's meeting of his biological father, Howard officials said.

Tonight by TobyMac (Forefront Records/EMI CMG Distribution) remained atop the SoundScan's Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart for sales the week ending Feb. 28, while Pistachio: The Little Boy That Woodn't, VeggieTales (Big Idea/Word Distribution) replaced Indescribable by Louie Giglio for the top spot on the Christian Videos list.

After Pistachio, the best-selling DVDs were: 2. Miracle Dogs Too (GT Media/EMI CMG); 3. Indescribable (sixstepsrecords/EMI CMG); 4. The Ultimate Gift (20th Century Fox Home Entertainment/Word); 5. Christian retailers should be cautious about undercutting themselves in their cornerstone category, the Bible, according to leading publishers.

While Bibles remain the Christian retail channel's best area for setting themselves apart from and above other sales venues with superior customer service, stores may be too quick to feel they have to compete on price, too.

Media spotlight for Tyndale’s ‘Son of Hamas’ Print Email

Mosab Hassan Yousef, a son of one of the founders of Hamas and author of Son of Hamas (Tyndale House Publishers), has been spotlighted by mainstream media for his memoir--which details a six-year-long conversion process that originated with a Bible study in Jerusalem and resulted in his departure from the Palestinian terrorist organization.

In his book, Yousef, 32, reveals that he became one of the top spies for Israel's internal security arm, the Shin Bet. "I absolutely know that in anybody's eyes I was a traitor," he told The Wall Street Journal. "To my family, to my nation, to my God. I crossed all the red lines in my society. I didn't leave one that I didn't cross. ... The problem is not in Muslims. The problem is with their God. They need to be liberated from their God. He is their biggest enemy. It has been 1,400 years they have been lied to."

Anniversary release of 'Matthew' due Print Email

Commemorating the 15th anniversary of its U.S. debut, The Gospel According to Matthew will be re-released on DVD March 15 by Marchiano Ministries and distributed to Christian retail by Nest Entertainment.

Since its original release in 1995 by Visual Bible, The Gospel According to Matthew--featuring Bruce Marchiano, known as the "smiling Jesus" for his portrayal of Jesus in the "Visual Bible" series--has sold millions of copies worldwide, company officials said. The film features a word-for-word account of the book of Matthew, using the New International Version and showing the chapters and verses in the lower corner of the screen.
