In an unlikely scenerio, Charles Darwin's evolution manifesto Origin of Species will soon be available for purchase in Christian stores.

Citing that Origin of Species is available in the public domain, evangelist, author and speaker Ray Comfort is producing 100,000 copies of the 1859 book--with a 50-page introduction refuting Darwin's theory--to distribute at secular college campuses Nov. 24. In the introduction, Comfort also details Darwin's racism and mistreatment of women.

While the bulk of the copies will be distributed directly to students, Bridge-Logos Foundation has partnered with Comfort's Living Waters ministry to supply some of the books to Christian retail stores for evangelistic purposes.

"We are making them available to bookstores and anyone who wants to purchase," said Lloyd Hildebrand, CEO and publisher of Bridge-Logos. "In effect, they're really a tract that can be used to win someone to the Lord."

The project will be promoted as a 150th-anniversary edition with "An Introduction by Ray Comfort" on the front cover. "We want Christians around the country to do what we will do at (the University of California, Berkeley) and many other campuses--to give out 1,000 copies at a university near them," said Comfort. "Imagine more than 60,000 copies of these books suddenly flooding major learning institutions in one day."

The project has not come without controversy, Hildebrand said, noting several YouTube videos criticizing the plan from both secularists and Christians. Still, "controversy sells books," he added.
