“We are very excited that Val decided to join our team,” said George Nizynski, president and co-owner of the company with his wife, Pat. “We cannot think of anyone more highly regarded in the Christian gift industry. We have known Val for approximately 18 years. She was our first gift buyer at Family Christian Stores. Val will focus on helping Lighthouse expand its product offering into new and additional categories.”

A Moms’ Night Out novelization by Tricia Goyer, and daily devotional Moms’ Night Out and Other Things I Miss: Devotions to Help You Survive by Hollywood comedienne Kerri Pomarolli have hit store shelves ahead of the May 9 launch of the film, which stars Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Sean Astin (the “Lord of the Rings” film trilogy).

A family-comedy that celebrates the complicated world of parenting, Goyer’s Moms’ Night Out novelization chronicles how three harried moms, their husbands, a sister-in-law with a misplaced baby, a tattoo-parlor owner, a motorcycle gang and a bewildered cabbie become intertwined in each others’ lives after one momentous moms’ night out. Slight dip in Mother's Day spending expected Print Email

Americans will spend an average of $162.94 on mom this year, down from a survey high of $168.94 last year, according to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 2014 Mother’s Day Spending Survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. Total spending is expected to reach $19.9 billion.

“As one of the most universally celebrated holidays, retailers will take this opportunity to attract Mother’s Day shoppers with promotions on ladies apparel items, health and beauty products, jewelry and even restaurant options,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. “Now fully into spring, retailers are hoping consumer sentiment and spending intentions continue to grow as we round out one of the busiest retail seasons of the year and prepare for summer.”

ChristianBookAward14-winners-webThe Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) announced eight winners for the 2014 Christian Book Award program, honoring Christian publishing’s best book and Bible releases of the year—and one top book winner. The awards were presented at the ECPA Awards & Anniversary banquet April 28, held the opening night of the ECPA Leadership Summit at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Crossway’s Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book About a (Really) Big Problem by Kevin DeYoung received the 2014 Christian Book of the Year, the industry’s highest book honor bestowed upon one title from all the finalists considering its overall impact in the marketplace.
