BeyondThePage-webCrossway announced today the launch of Beyond the Page, its new online book review program. Retailers may find this program useful in learning about reader experiences that can be referenced when hand-selling to customers.

Beyond the Page grants participating bloggers up to 12 free e-books per year in the digital format of their choice. Reviewers are encouraged to engage with the book’s content and go “beyond the page” with their review, focusing on the book’s application to their own life or ministry.

Obamacare delay takes heat off mid-sized employers Print Email

iStock_000005253776.graffoto8-webMid-sized employers have been granted another year before they will be legally required to offer health insurance to nearly all full-time employees. The Obama administration announced another delay in the employer mandate section of the Affordable Care Act—also known as Obamacare—pushing the requirement back to 2016 for companies with 50 to 99 full-time employees.

Larger companies—defined by the law as having 100 or more employees—also were granted a reprieve in the announcement. Though their implementation date remains Jan. 1, 2015—delayed by a more sweeping announcement in July from the law’s original 2014 deadline—large employers will only be required to offer insurance to 70% of full-time workers by that time, instead of the 95% originally mandated.

Worthy Publishing to publish Operation First Novel winner Print Email

UnstoppableKirkCameronDVD-webKirk Cameron’s Unstoppable (Provident Films/Provident Distribution) has held the top spot on SoundScan’s Christian Video chart for two consecutive weeks since its Jan. 28 release on DVD. The film is a joint production between Cameron and Liberty University.

In September 2013, Unstoppable’s theatrical release made headlines with gross ticket sales of more than $3.2 million in its two nights of screenings.

NRF: Cold weather freezes January retail growth Print Email

MatthewShay-NRF-WebConsumers’ spending leveled off post-holiday in the beginning of the year due in part to severe winter weather in much of the country. January retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants, were flat seasonally adjusted month-to-month, yet increased 3.0% unadjusted year-over-year, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).

Book, music, sporting goods and hobby stores’ sales decreased 1.4% seasonally adjusted month-to-month and 1.5% unadjusted year-over-year.
