‘Son of God’ tracking for $22.5 million opening weekend Print Email

SonOfGodMoviePoster-webAll signs are pointing to Son of God making a splash this weekend as it debuts in more than 3000 theaters nationwide Feb. 28. A considerable grassroots push from Christian retailers, churches, communities, and bloggers has helped the buzz for the movie explode in recent weeks, and according to ticket presales, trailer views, and increasing box office projections, all that buzz may pay off in big opening weekend numbers.

Projections issued by Boxoffice.com originally put Son of God at a $13 million opening weekend, but more recent estimates by Major Theater Chain (MTC) indicate the film could gross $22.5 million, according to Breitbart. This would put Son of God above the opening weekend performances of recent star-studded mainstream films such as Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and the RoboCop remake.

Harrison House pioneering author Charles Capps dies Print Email

CharlesCapps-webAuthor and Word of Faith preacher Charles Capps has died. Capps passed away on Feb. 23. He was 80.

His best-selling books, including The Tongue a Creative Force and God’s Creative Power Will Work for You (both Harrison House), have sold millions of copies and are still in demand. The latter gave birth to the “God’s Creative Power” series, which alone has sold more than 5 million copies.

Rich Mullins-inspired ‘Ragamuffin’ to hit theaters in May Print Email

RagamuffinPoster-webRagamuffin, a film based on the life and legacy of best-selling Christian singer-songwriter Rich Mullins, is set to premiere in select theaters May 2. The full-length feature film from Color Green Films will release in 15 cities across the nation, including Nashville; Dallas; Indianapolis; Columbus, Ohio; Atlanta; Phoenix; Colorado Springs, Colo., and Wichita, Kan.

Ragamuffin is a stirring film that will touch audiences and challenge them to consider what is most important in their own lives,” said David Leo Schultz, the film’s director, producer and co-writer. “The movie’s heartfelt themes include redemption, forgiveness, faith and the true meaning of God’s unconditional love.”

Concordia publishes first lay-level commentary series with ESV Print Email

The commentary also features illustrative quotes from key reformers such as Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon, John Calvin, Thomas Cranmer and others.

‘Duck Dynasty’ stars, Kyle Idleman to launch ICRS Print Email

PhilRobertsonCropped-webDuck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson and son Alan Robertson will open CBA’s June 23-25 International Christian Retail Show (ICRS) in Atlanta. Phil Robertson's message during Sunday’s Change a Life festival will focus on the evening’s events and kick off the 65th annual convention.

Author and pastor Kyle Idleman also will speak at the opening ceremony, offering a message about drawing closer to God.
