Publishers continue to release and market titles on the afterlife as interest on the topic show no signs of dying.

Next month, Thomas Nelson releases Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Nebraska pastor Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent. In the book, Burpo recounts the near-death experience of his 4-year-old son, Colton, who began surprising his parents with detailed accounts of Jesus, places described in the Scriptures and departed relatives, including meeting his sister in heaven--a girl lost in a miscarriage before he was born.

Wow Hits 2011 (Wow/EMI CMG Distribution) remained atop the top SoundScan's Christian/gospel music Christian retail chart for sales the week ending Oct. 17, while Fireproof (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity Distribution) supplanted the new VeggieTales release It's A Meaningful Life (Big Idea/Word Distribution) for the top spot on the Christian Videos list.

Curriculum supplier Group Publishing has developed a new non-print resource for families on the go.

The Loveland, Colo.-based company has released Gabbit, a hockey puck-shaped and sized electronic conversation-starter. It contains 75 questions in each of five categories--Favorites, What If?, Friends & Family, Zingers and This or That.

A month after Donald Miller announced that plans for the film version of his breakthrough book had been scrapped because filmmakers couldn't get enough funding, fans of Blue Like Jazz (Thomas Nelson) established a savebluelikejazz Web site to raise $125,000 in 10 days.

Christian Store Day 'a success' Print Email

With nearly 500 stores taking part in the initiative, this weekend's first national Christian Store Day was "a success," according to organizers.

"We are very pleased with the initial event and believe that it will build momentum in future years to raise awareness of Christian stores, the needs they serve and fulfill, and their role in the community to lift up and honor Christ," CBA Executive Director Curtis Riskey told Christian Retailing. "Christian Store Day (was) an opportunity to demonstrate the power of ministry and the impact of working together."
