Editorial Unilit has named Spanish Christian product industry veteran Sam Rodriguez as vice president of product development.

Rodriguez, who has more than 20 years of experience in the publishing industry, was associate director at Grupo Nelson--the Spanish division of Thomas Nelson--where he led in the areas of new author acquisitions, marketing and advertising. Tod Suttleworth, vice president of Thomas Nelson, said Rodriguez "played a key role during his last five years with us, where sales increased by a 22% margin."

Editorial Unilit President David Ecklebarger added: "We believe that his gifts and experience will complement our already effective publishing, sales and marketing team. I look forward to working with him."

Father's Day spending up slightly Print Email

As the economy continues its slow rebound, Americans will spend slightly more on the most important men in their lives this Father's Day, to be celebrated Sunday, June 20.

The average person will spend $94.32 on dad this year, up from $90.89 last year, according to the National Retail Federation's 2010 Father's Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch. Total Father's Day spending is expected to reach $9.8 billion.

The first trailer to the third movie in "The Chronicles of Narnia" film series is being released today through Christian media outlets.

More than 150 faith-based online and television outlets, including Christian Retailing, are exclusively debuting the trailer of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader before the trailer is shown in theaters tomorrow, June 18. It is also being made available to churches nationwide this weekend.

An investor group led by New York private equity firm Kohlberg & Co. has bought majority ownership of Thomas Nelson.

The company's new board will include Jane Friedman, former CEO of HarperCollins Worldwide--the parent company of Zondervan, Nelson's main competitor.

Zondervan suspends, sells Symtio e-book program Print Email

Zondervan is getting rid of its Symtio digital distribution service less than two years after launching the initiative to give Christian retail stores a foothold in the e-book market.

Sales of the in-store Symtio cards that enable at-home downloads have been suspended, with a new owner for the online portion of the business due to be announced soon.
