Flywheel (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity Distribution) remained atop the SoundScan's Christian Videos list for sales the week ending June 13, while The Generous Mr. Lovewell by MercyMe (INO Records/Provident-Integrity) continued to hold the top spot of the Christian/gospel music Christian retail chart.

Veteran broadcaster, author Ron Hembree dies Print Email

Veteran Christian broadcaster Charles R. "Ron" Hembree, who wrote several books, died June 10 at his home in Murrysville, Pa. He was 72.

The president of Cornerstone Television and a National Religious Broadcasters board member, Hembree wrote more than 70 books, including Sixty Seconds With God ("Good Morning Lord Devotions") (Christian Art Gifts) and Fruit of the Spirit: The Keys to Christian Personality (Revell).

Cut-back classics aim for new readers Print Email

Two publishers are reducing some Christian classics to bite- and even nibble-sized portions to introduce them to a new audience.

Barbour Publishing, which has published classic titles for almost 30 years, has cut the works of authors like John Bunyan and Charles Sheldon by up to half for a new budget series, while Regal Books has reduced some of A.W. Tozer's writings to a sentence in a social media campaign.

The winners of the Word Guild 2010 Canadian Christian Writing Awards were announced June 16 at a black-tie event at World Vision's headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario.

Honoring the work of top Canadian Christian writers, the awards featured 18 book categories. In the Apologetics category, Red Letter Revolution: If We Did Revolution Jesus' Way by Colin McCartney (Castle Quay Books) won, while Jesus, the Final Days by Craig A. Evans and N.T. Wright (Westminster John Knox Press/Augsburg Fortress Canada) was the winner in Biblical Studies.

Plans have been announced for a new, collaborative winter trade show to be held in Atlanta, Jan. 11-13, 2011.

The as-yet-unnamed event will bring together Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) and the Inspirational Value Book Show (IVBS), who earlier this year revealed the intent to merge their separate events, with a third partner--CBA.

Religious book sales rise significantly Print Email

Sales of religious books rose significantly in April, as overall book sales increased by 24.8% to $629.8 million and were up by 11.8% for the year, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

The month's sales for religious books rose 19.3% to $46.6 million, and sales were up by 1.3% for the year. Sales of religious books had its largest increase in more than a year in March. Other than a small increase in December, the religious books category had been on a steady decline since January 2009.
