Christian publishers and retailers alike are pumped about health and fitness books. They say that the category is on the rise with more people looking for help from a biblical point of view to stay in shape or take care of their bodies.

People are looking for inspiration and encouragement from those "who have ‘been there and done that,' offering hope from their stories," Gospel Light Vice President for Sales and Marketing Bob Bever told Christian Retailing magazine.

A new Webinar focusing on improving music sales in Christian retail stores has been added to the Virtual Christian Retailing Show.

Hosted by Christian Retailing magazine, the Web-based event features 25 exhibitors, presenting products and extending some special offers to buyers. Since it was launched July 20, the virtual show has attracted more than 3,700 visits from 61 countries.

Thomas Nelson tops fiction category Print Email

Thomas Nelson reports that it has claimed the largest market share percentage of fiction in the Christian retail channel through June--more than 20%, according to the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's Pubtrack data system's quarterly category analysis report for the first two quarters of the year. The report ranks bookstore sales of more than 200 publishers in the category.

"We listen closely to the readers and retailers to deliver the optimal mix of genres, formats and prices for our novels," said Allen Arnold, senior vice president and publisher of fiction at Thomas Nelson. "And in just five years, we're honored to be the No. 1 Christian fiction publisher--with one out of every five novels bought at Christian retail since the beginning of 2009 published by Thomas Nelson."

Donald Miller’s hidden manuscripts game Print Email

Fans of author Donald Miller are following his updates on social-networking sites to find the locations of hidden manuscript copies of his newest book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, to be released by Thomas Nelson in October.

Sixty numbered and signed "bootleg" copies of the manuscript are being hidden in secret locations in 60 cities around the country, company officials said. Each day, Miller sends out messages via Twitter and Facebook with information on the location of two of the manuscripts. Those who find a manuscript also receive Miller's personal phone number, so they can call him to talk about the book.

Rick Latona Auctions (RLA) has announced that the auction of the domain name Christian.com will take place Oct. 27 in New York City in combination with the T.R.A.F.F.I.C domain conference.

"Christian.com is an ideal name for Christian book publishers, Christian record labels, large churches, ministries and many other business models," said David Clements, president of RLA. "The branding and marketing potential is limitless with a name that strikes as hard as Christian.com.

CBN to re-launch ‘Superbook’ Print Email

A popular animated TV series from the 1980s--which taught children the truths of the Bible--is being re-launched by the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), featuring "stories that convey biblical truths to a tech-savvy generation."

Thirteen new stories of Superbook are to be released on DVD-featuring 3-D animation from award-winning writers, producers and animators with credits that include Disney's The Lion King, Mulan and Beauty and the Beast, CBN officials said.
