altA Holy Land artifact due to be given a church and broadcast ministry spotlight is expected to draw Christians' interest in a new range of materials celebrating the roots of their faith.

A series of megachurch events, TV coverage and a coming new attraction at the Trinity Broadcasting Network's The Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Fla., in the coming months will introduce The Jesus Boat.

Spanish trade show to be broadcast Print Email

altAs the 17th annual Expolit convenes in Miami, May 14-19, attendees including booksellers, publishers, suppliers, distributors and consumers, will discover a return to a one-floor exhibit hall along with a new broadcast component.

Two years ago, the exhibit space was divided into two floors. With vendors and suppliers tightening up on their booth space, Marie Tamayo, executive director of Expolit 2009, said this year the floor will return to one "packed" floor, "making the job easier for everybody." Among those on the floor will be a larger group of ministry booths in addition to those reserved by suppliers.

Christian presence scaling back at BEA Print Email

altCiting the economic slowdown, Christian publishers are skipping or scaling back on their presence at the U.S. book world's biggest event next month.

Around 140 religious publishing companies are so far confirmed for Book Expo America (BEA), which will take place in New York City, May 28-31.

Retail industry sees ‘dreary March sales’ Print Email

altRetail industry sales for March--which exclude automobiles, gas stations and restaurants--dropped 3.7% unadjusted over last year and decreased 0.6% seasonally adjusted month-to-month, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, March total retail sales--which also exclude automobiles, gas stations and restaurants--decreased 1.1% seasonally adjusted over February and decreased 10.6% unadjusted over last year.

Howard Books to relocate to Nashville Print Email

altSimon & Schuster is to move Howard Books--its Christian imprint--to Nashville from West Monroe, La., effective May 1.

The move, announced earlier this week, comes after Christian publishing veteran Jonathan Merkh--who lives in Nashville--was named vice president and publisher of Howard Books, last month.

Eerdmans hires new director of sales Print Email

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. has announced the hiring of Steven Alderman to the newly created position of director of sales.

Alderman will be responsible for sales to domestic and foreign religious trade stores, national chains and distributors. He will also oversee national accounts and wholesalers, and manage distribution and inventory as well as the sales team, rights and permissions, special sales and book club sales.

Alderman has more than 15 years of experience in the book publishing industry, most recently serving as the key account manager for general market sales at Thomas Nelson. Prior to Thomas Nelson, Alderman was the national accounts sales manager for Standard Publishing, Eerdmans officials said.

altThough the right-to-life battle centered on bedridden Terri Schindler Schiavo dominated the international news headlines for weeks in 2005, most people still do not know the real, full story--or its far-reaching social implications.

That is the opinion of award-winning veteran producer and director Ken Carpenter who revisited the case for a two-part TV documentary aired last year and released in revised format in May as The Terri Schiavo Story.

Harrison House book reaches milestone Print Email

altHarrison House Publishers has announced that "The Real Life for Kids" series by Rod Baker has sold more than 100,000 copies.

Baker, who ministers to more than 4,000 children every week as director of children's ministry at Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Okla., has written three books in the series, including Real Life for Kids, Real Healing for Kids and Real Power for Kids.
