altChristian Booksellers Convention (CBC)--the established Christian product trade show in the U.K.--has been combined with the Christian Resources Exhibitions (CRE).

Scheduled for May 12-15 at Sandown Park in Esher, Surrey, the event will feature many components of CBC, including retailer training, morning devotions, authors and artists evening, and an awards banquet.

altA Christian products industry veteran has urged retailers to embrace change and harness the possibilities of new technology if they are to survive.

"There's no point spending one additional minute bemoaning that publishers sell direct, that Wal-Mart carries many of your best-selling books, that Internet retailers undercut your prices and that some people illegally swap music files," writes David Amster in an "Industry Forum" column for Christian Retailing magazine.

Donald Lawrence wins Christian Music Award Print Email

altDonald Lawrence was named Songwriter of the Year, while "Never Would Have Made It"--co-written by Marvin Sapp and Matthew Brownie--was awarded Song of the Year during the 2009 BMI Christian Music Awards at the weekend in Nashville.

During a ceremony April 18--the first day of the Gospel Music Association's GMA Music Week 2009, which runs through Wednesday, April 22, in Nashville--Lawrence was recognized with the songwriter honor for "Giants," recorded by Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers, and "Livin' "--recorded by The Clark Sisters.

altChristian publishing executives will take stock of the impact of the economic downturn and the challenge of new technology, when they gather in California later this week to consider "Leading Through a Tsunami of Change."

That is the theme of the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association's (ECPA) 2009 executive leadership summit, to be held at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, April 26-28.

altThe Christian products industry needs a theological renewal if it is to play its part in ensuring the health of the evangelical church in the coming years.

That's the concern of CBA President Bill Anderson, who says that such a change "can only come as we as publishers and record companies and gift manufacturers and retailers give prominence and promotion to that which is sound and solid, refusing to capitulate to the pressure to promote what will sell.

Tyndale House Publishers will release Terror by Night by alt and James Pence, based on the true story of a modern-day Job who lost everything in March 2008, but through faith in God has seen his life restored.

To be published in September, Terror by Night reveals details of a brutal Texas murder that destroyed Caffey's family. Remarried and working to rebuild his relationship with his 17-year-old daughter, who is serving two life sentences in prison for her involvement in the crimes, Caffey hopes his story can help others who have experienced a personal tragedy to forgive and learn to rebuild their lives with God's help.
