A new quarterly magazine by Rick Warren--pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., and author of The Purpose-Driven Life (Zondervan)--was recently released by The Reader's Digest Association.

The premiere issue of the 146-page Purpose Driven Connection hit newsstands and Christian bookstores last week for around $10. The four quarterly issues of the magazine, DVDs and small-group workbooks along with behind-the-scenes access to the interactive Web site, www.PurposeDriven.com, are available to consumers for an annual subscription membership of $29.99.

Habitat for Humanity founder, author dies Print Email

Millard Fuller--founder of the Christian house-building charity Habitat for Humanity (HfH) and an author--died Feb. 3 after being taken to a hospital near his home in Americus, Ga., the Associated Press reported. He was 74.

Fuller wrote several books, including Building Materials for Life (2007) and The Theology of the Hammer (1994)--both published by Smyth & Helwys Publishing.

Book, movie spotlight globe-trekking evangelist Print Email

A publisher and a movie company have joined forces to cross promote new projects about the life and ministry of globe-trekking evangelist Arthur Blessitt.

The Cross is the name of the book released last month by Authentic Publishing and also the title of the documentary to be released in theaters next month by Gener8Xion Entertainment. The book cover and film poster feature the same photo of Blessitt, who has carried a 12-foot cross around the world during the last 40 years.

Large denominational bookstore closes Print Email

Regarded as one of the largest Christian bookstores in the country and advertised as the largest in the South, Pathway Bookstore in Cleveland, Tenn., closed its doors Jan 14.

Operated by the Church of God (CoG), the store ran for many years in a smaller location at the organization's publishing house building in Cleveland, but then the Pentecostal denomination opened a reported $2.5 million, 30,000-square-foot facility in August 1999.

Building on seven years of producing bilingual five-day Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs, Editorial Concordia releases its 2009 materials next month, Un viaje en miniatura: Descubriendo la grandeza de Dios (A Tiny Adventure: Discovering the Greatness of God).

The program is available in Spanish and bilingual versions for four age groups: level 1 (3 to 5), level 2 (6-8), level 3 (9-11) and level 4 (12-14). Student packs of five lessons for each level retail for $14.99 (Spanish) or $16.99 (bilingual).

The Gospel Music Channel (GMC) will broadcast the TV premiere of VeggieTales: Abe and the Amazing Promise (Big Idea/Word Distribution) at 9 a.m. EST, Feb 7.

The latest VeggieTales DVD, Abe and the Amazing Promise--which went on sale in Christian stores Feb. 7--features the voice of popular radio host Delilah, who is Sarah in the episode based on God's promise to Abraham and his wife and subtitled "A Lesson in Patience."

Christian product suppliers still have time to take advantage of a special offer for this year's Retailers Choice Awards.
