Although the author used principles from Proverbs in his previous book The Richest Man Who Ever Lived, when his publisher subsequently asked him for a follow-up based on the principles of Jesus, he hit a roadblock after compiling two months' worth of notes.

Strang Communications rebrands, downsizes Print Email

altThe company that publishes Christian Retailing, Strang Communications, is rebranding itself and downsizing to cope with a changing market and improve profitability, said Stephen Strang, founder and CEO.

Beginning this month, the company which is located in Lake Mary, Fla., will do business under three names: Strang Book Group, which includes seven imprints, headed by Executive Vice President Tessie Devore; Strang Grupo Hispano, headed by Director Lydia Morales; and Strang Media Group, which includes the company's magazine and Internet properties. Strang himself will head up the Media Group, which includes its flagship Charisma magazine as well as Christian Retailing and several other publications.

altFaithWords, an imprint of Hachette Book Group USA, has announced that books from two of its young adult fiction series have been chosen for use through educational platforms.

It's All About Us by Shelley Adina has been added to the curriculum for an undergraduate Young Adult Literature course at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. The Miracle Girls by Anne Dayton and May Vanderbilt has been selected for inclusion in the Accelerated Reader--the most popular and successful reading product program for school-age children.

Reinhard Bonnke to speak at Vision Celebration Print Email

altChristian Trade Association International's (CTAI) has announced that well-known German evangelist Reinhard Bonnke will be the keynote speaker July 12 during its annual International Vision Celebration at the International Christian Retail Show in Denver.

Bonnke founded the international ministry of Christ for all Nations (CfaN) more than 30 years ago. Since 2000, CfaN has seen more than 53 million people receive Christ at events in Africa and other parts of the world, CTAI officials said. As part of CfaN's discipleship-training program, 190 million copies of Bonnke's books and booklets have been published in 143 languages and 54 countries. Bonnke's autobiography is due to come out later this year.

altFireproof (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity Distribution) remained atop the SoundScan Christian Videos list for sales the week ending Feb. 22, while Wow Hits 2009 by various artists (Wow Gospel/Provident-Integrity) returned to the top spot of the Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart, supplanting Kari Jobe by Kari Jobe (Integrity Music/Provident-Integrity).

Marriage-related titles dominate ECPA's book chart Print Email

altValentine's Day promotions not surprisingly drove book sales last month, as reflected in the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's (ECPA) latest best-sellers list.

Six of the top 10 titles in the just-released March chart were marriage-related, with four of those related to the hit movie Fireproof.

Dobson steps down as Focus chairman Print Email

altFocus on the Family founder and author James Dobson has stepped down as board chairman of the nonprofit organization that he founded 32 years ago, but he will continue to appear on its popular daily radio program as well as speak out on moral issues.

Additionally, Dobson's wife, Shirley--who serves as National Day of Prayer chairman--has also stepped down from the board of directors, according to a Feb. 27 announcement. Focus officials said that the Dobsons' decision follows a transition plan begun six years ago, when James Dobson stepped down as president in order to lessen his administrative burden. Executive leadership was handed to Don Hodel in 2003, and then to Jim Daly in 2005.
