Fireproof (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity Distribution) continued to top the SoundScan Christian Videos list for sales the week ending Feb. 15, while Kari Jobe by Kari Jobe (Integrity Music/Provident-Integrity) supplanted Wow Hits 2009 by various artists (Wow Gospel/Provident-Integrity) for the top spot on the Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart.

After Fireproof, the best-selling DVDs were: 2. Though None Go With Me (GT Media/EMI CMG Distribution); 3. VeggieTales: Abe and the Amazing Promise (Big Idea/Word Distribution); 4. Flywheel (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity); 5. Gaither Vocal Band Reunion Volume One (Gaither Music Group/EMI CMG); 6. The Retrievers (GT Media/EMI CMG); 7. Facing the Giants (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity); 8. Gaither Vocal Band Reunion Volume Two (Gaither Music Group/EMI CMG); 9. The Adventures of Ociee Nash (Fox Faith/Word); and 10. Bill and Gloria Gaither and Their Homecoming Friends: Amazing Grace (Gaither Music Group/EMI CMG).

Publishers are stepping up efforts to reach modern readers with the "still, small voice" of God in the midst of increasingly busy lives.

Bite-size Scripture verses, devotionals and books for mobile devices like MP3 players and cell phones are helping to provide spiritual refreshment for time-pressed Americans-a trend recently spotlighted in the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.

Christian Book Distributors cut staff Print Email

Christian Book Distributors (CBD) has announced that the Peabody, Mass.-based company will cut 37 positions, reducing its staff to 528 employees.

"In this environment, we felt it was critical to put the company in the best position for the long term," CBD President Ray Hendrickson said. "It is very difficult to part with CBD staff members, but we are offering a generous severance package that takes into consideration each employee's length of service.

Chris Tomlin again leads Dove nominees Print Email

For the third year in a row, reigning three-time Male Vocalist of the Year Chris Tomlin leads all nominees for the 40th Annual Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards with seven nominations-including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)."

Other leading nominees named Friday for gospel music's best in 2008 were Natalie Grant, newcomer Francesca Battistelli and Casting Crowns with five nods each. Four nominations each went to Brandon Heath, Mary Mary, Laura Story and Michael W. Smith.

altFormer American Idol contestant Mandisa admits to still watching the show religiously, but has a notable distraction during the current series--the forthcoming release of her third album.

The 32-year-old California native--whose acclaimed 2007 debut, True Beauty, scanned more than 150,000 units--sees Freedom (Sparrow Records) hit stores March 24 addressing various issues, notably addiction.

Christian bookshop in Turkey vandalized Print Email

Following threats from Muslim nationalists, a Turkish Bible Society Christian bookshop in Adana, Turkey, was recently vandalized for the second time in a week, Compass Direct News reported.

Security camera footage shows two youths attacking the storefront of the Soz Kitapevi bookshop Feb. 12, kicking and smashing glass in both the window and the door. During the first attack on Feb. 7, the glass of the front door was smashed and the security camera mangled.
