LibertyHillXulon Press and parent Salem Communications launched a new politically conservative imprint, Liberty Hill Publishing, Sept. 22.

The addition of Liberty Hill capitalizes on the expertise of Xulon Press—which has produced more than 20,000 titles, more than any other faith-based self-publisher—and further expands Salem Communications’ presence in the conservative media-space and publishing industry.

Moody’s Chapman Center expected to impact publishing ministry Print Email

ChapmanCenter-webAuthor Gary Chapman and his wife, Karolyn, have given a sizable gift for the establishment of the Chapman Center on Moody Bible Institute’s Chicago campus. The Chapman Center is expected to benefit many of Moody’s ministries, including publishing.

The announcement was made by Moody Global Ministries’ President Paul Nyquist during an on-campus town hall meeting Sept. 16 with staff, faculty and students in attendance. The Chapmans were on hand for the announcement, along with their daughter, Shelley, whose presence and tribute was a surprise to her parents.

AAP: Religious book sales drop in May Print Email

AAPButtonLogo-webBooks published by religious presses fared well in April (+10.7%), but dropped considerably (-13.1%) in May, according to the most recent report from the Association of American Publishers (AAP). Religious publishers saw a 0.1% decline year-to-date compared to last year’s figure for the January-May period.

BHPublishingGroup-webB&H Publishing Group is expanding its international focus with the launch of B&H Global. The expansion comes after the company was named Publisher of the Year at the Spanish Evangelical Publishers Association (SEPA) Awards announced during Expolit in May.

B&H President Selma Wilson has appointed Craig Featherstone to lead a new, dedicated division to better reach the world with biblical resources. Featherstone brings more than 20 years of experience and leadership in Christian publishing. As senior vice president of sales, Featherstone has led B&H to expand to 27 market channels, 70 countries, licenses in multiple languages and rapid growth in digital content.

Petersen and Randy Petersen for 100 Christian Books That Changed the Century (Revell, 2000) and has appeared on CBA and Christian Retailing best-seller lists 18 times. A revised, updated version of the book will be released Oct. 7.

InsideTheNyeHamDebate-webMaster Books has announced the publication date for its new book regarding the high-profile debate between evolutionist Bill Nye and creationist Ken Ham. Titled Inside the Nye-Ham Debate, the book will be available Oct. 27 and is described by the publisher as a "tell all."

Bill Nye, The Science Guy, and Ham, founder of Answers in Genesis, squared off during a live debate Feb. 4 where they addressed the question: “Is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era?” Based on a conservative estimate, 7.6 million people watched the debate, and there were 3.5 million views on YouTube.

AlphaOmegaAlpha Omega Publications (AOP) recently announced that the Duggar family from the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting has made AOP its homeschool curriculum choice.

“With our number of children that we have, we really felt like the best way that we could really direct our children's hearts toward God was with homeschooling,” said Michelle Duggar. “As I have encouraged others to homeschool, they have come back and said it is the best thing they’ve done for their family.”

21972440Sm  Istockphoto-Forrestbro-webHarperCollins Publishers recently announced a holiday express-shipping program for independent bookstores in the United States for all HarperCollins and HarperCollins Christian Publishing titles. The program begins Nov. 3, 2014, and runs through Jan. 16, 2015.

“We are pleased to provide this service to the indie channel in the busiest time of year in order to help them have HarperCollins titles in stock and meet the demands of their customers,” said Brian Grogan, senior vice president of sales for HarperCollins Publishers.
