onward-russell-mooreB&H Publishing Group announced Wednesday that Russell Moore’s Onward: Engaging Culture without Losing the Gospel was the Christianity Today 2016 Book of the Year. It won the overall category, “Beautiful Orthodoxy.”

Christianity Today’s editorial team picked books that are most likely to shape evangelical life, thought and culture. In addition, Onward also won in the “Politics and Public Life” category.

First published in 2003, Jones' book is an exploration of the parallels between the Christian faith and the original six Star Wars films. The new cover appeals to both new and old fans eager to understand all aspects of the Star Wars universe as they anticipate the Dec. 18 release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the series.

By looking closely at the films, Jones unpacks why this series has resonated so deeply with both Christians and non-Christians. Through practical next steps and Star Wars-themed meditations, Jones gives readers clear guidance on applying lessons found in the series in everyday life. The book also includes an appendix summarizing key plot points of the first six films as well as a study guide for small group discussion.

living-well-spending-less-coverRuth Soukup's Living Well, Spending Less (Zondervan) has sold more than 100,000 copies since its release Dec. 30, 2014. The book, which attempts to change how readers look at spending money, appeared on the New York Times best-seller list immediately upon its initial release.

Living Well, Spending Less launched with a “12 Secrets Challenge” on Soukup’s highly successful blog. The book garnered media attention from The Washington Post, The Huffington Post and Newsday, among others. Soukup is a personal finance blogger who reaches over 1.5 million readers every month through her blog.

Peachtree Editorial Services owners announce retirement Print Email

June-Gunden-Paige-Drygas-Peachtree duoAfter 30 years of leading Peachtree Editorial Services, June and Doug Gunden will retire in early 2016 and have announced plans to transition the company to new leadership. Paige Drygas will become the company’s president and will co-own the company with Chris Hudson of Hudson Bible. The transition will occur Feb. 1.

Industry veteran Drygas will step into the role of president with a season of overlap and transition. Drygas' background includes writing and editing for more than 125 Christian books and Bibles.

Nizynski-CRBest15-webLighthouse Christian Products (LCP) highlighted the 10th anniversary of Amelia Nizynski, the company’s creative and design director. Praise poured in as LCP celebrated Amelia’s contribution to the company and to the Christian gift industry.

“Since Amelia joined Lighthouse, we have grown every year, including this year,” said Ed Nizynski, vice president of sales. “Our gifts are now sold in over 23 countries, and I’m sure more than we know. We have gone into at least one new gift category each year since she has been with us.”

Baker Publishing Group exec loses home in fire Print Email

DwightBaker-2013-webDwight Baker, president of Baker Publishing Group, and his wife, Tamara, appear to have lost their Grand Rapids, Michigan, home in a fire Thursday night.

Dan Baker, executive vice president at the company and brother to Dwight, reported everyone is "safe." But the home appears to be a total loss, according to Wes Brower, the company’s executive vice president of finance and operations.

Heritage Builders pulls chef's book from publication Print Email

Sir-White-House-Chef-book-coverHeritage Builders Publishing has ceased publication and distribution of White House chef Ronnie Seaton's controversial new book, Sir White House Chef. Released this month, the book’s content and the author’s credibility came under fire in Sunday's New York Post.

The newspaper said the chef lied about his job, degree, knighthood and Purple Heart from the Vietnam War. Seaton, 62, now works in New Orleans.
