Aiming to capitalize on a known, strong name in the gift market, Thomas Nelson is bringing back its J. Countryman brand.

Having scrapped its 21 imprints, including J. Countryman, in the 2007 One Company Initiative, Nelson officials said it was time to bring back its "high-end gift product line."

With an anniversary, a rebirth and a launch, the next year is shaping up to be a major one for the Bible market.

Publishers are preparing big promotional efforts for the events. Thomas Nelson leads the way, this month kicking of a 400-day celebration of the 400th anniversary of the publishing of the King James Version (KJV), in 1611.

'A Christmas Snow' coming to stores Print Email

A Christmas Snow is being released tomorrow, Oct. 8, on DVD by Destiny Image Films (DIF) and distributed to Christian stores by Trost Moving Pictures.

DIF is part of Destiny Image Publishers, best known for its charismatic books. The 111-minute family drama about when "the storm of the century brings the gift of a lifetime" stars Muse Watson (NCIS, Prison Break), Catherine Mary Stewart (Days of Our Lives, The Last Starfighter) and Anthony Tyler Quinn (Boy Meets World, Melrose Place). It was shot in Tulsa, Okla., on a $650,000 budget.

Susan Boyle's Christmas album coming Print Email

Integrity Music, in partnership with SYCO/Columbia Records, will release Susan Boyle's first Christmas album to Christian retail.

Set for Nov. 9, The Gift features 10 songs from the former Britain's Got Talent contestant, whose debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, sold more than 9 million units worldwide since its release in November 2009.

Though many view children's products as more recession-proof than other categories, they have not been immune to the effects of the economic downturn.

But while Christian retailers see mixed results with resources for youngsters, they recognize that the area remains an important focus of business, according to Christian Retailing's latest Vital Signs industry survey.
