A bevy of authors and artists has voiced support for the first nationwide Christian Store Day, to be held Oct. 23.

More than 20 leading names from the Christian book and music world have given their backing to the initiative to raise awareness of Christian retail stores.

B&H Fiction names manager of Pure Enjoyment line Print Email

B&H Fiction has named Julie Gwinn as the manager of its Pure Enjoyment line. Formerly the marketing specialist for B&H Fiction, Gwinn will remain in charge of marketing, but will also take over the business side of running the line such as generating proposals, looking at comparable title data and managing budgets for individual titles.

Karen Ball, executive editor for the Pure Enjoyment line, will continue to manage author relationships, bring new acquisitions and edit novels.

"I'm excited about where the line is going," Ball said. "And Julie's creativity and passion for our authors and books have been a large part of our success. This change shows B&H's continued support for Pure Enjoyment."

 
AMG Publishers spotlighted in virtual show Print Email

A variety of titles from AMG (Advancing the Ministries of the Gospel) Publishers are being highlighted in Christian Retailing's Virtual Christian Retailing Show.

Running through Labor Day, Sept. 6, the show is hosted by Christian Retailing magazine, aiming to help stores set themselves for the fall and Christmas seasons with product news, order specials and training. It is the magazine's fourth virtual trade event since debuting the innovative program following last year's International Christian Retail Show.

Kingsway's agreement with Bethel Music Print Email

Kingsway has entered into an exclusive, long-term recorded music, marketing and distribution agreement with Bethel Music--part of Bethel Church in Redding, Calif.

Having sold more than 100,000 albums online and at events, Bethel Music's albums will be made available for the first time to Christian and general market stores through Kingsway with distribution in the U.S. by EMI CMG Distribution, company officials said.

Marketsquare International early-bird discount Print Email

Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) is offering a $300 discount to exhibitors who sign up by Sept. 15 for next year's Marketsquare International.

To be held jointly with the Inspirational Value Book Show and CBA, the event is scheduled for Jan. 11-13, 2011, at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel in Atlanta. The winter trade show is expected to draw 300 domestic and international buyers, CTAI officials said. Last year's show drew attendees from 18 countries.

Religious book sales decline Print Email

For the first time in four months, sales of religious books decreased in June, as overall book sales increased by 10.6% to $1.1 billion and were up by 11.4% for the year, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

The month's sales for religious books declined 8% to $39.2 million, but sales were up by 1.4% for the year. Sales of religious books had risen in May, April and March. Previously, other than a small increase in December, the religious books category had been on a steady decline since January 2009.
