Sales of religious books saw a sharp decrease in January, while overall book sales decreased by 0.7% to $814.9 million and were down by 0.7% for the year, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

The month's sales for religious books were down 14.6% to $42.2 million, also a 14.6% decline compared to January 2009. For the first time in a year, sales of religious books saw a small increase in December, as the category had been on a steady decline since January 2009.

Christian publishing leaders, suppliers and retailers are praising the appointment of Curtis Riskey as executive director of CBA to replace longtime President and CEO Bill Anderson.

The owner of a Christian bookstore in Oshkosh, Wis., Riskey, 43, has been on the staff of the retailers' trade association since 2007 and served as its interim executive director since Anderson's departure last October.

CBA has scrapped its search for a replacement for longtime President and CEO Bill Anderson, instead appointing Curtis Riskey as executive director of the retailers' trade association.

‘Renewed cooperation’ sought in India Print Email

A meeting for supplier and retailer representatives in India, later this year, is being organized to renew cooperative efforts among those involved with Christian resources on the subcontinent.

Up to 100 people are expected to attend the meeting planned for mid-September by the Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) following its Marketsquare Asia convention.
