Retailers, tomorrow is the deadline to name your favorite products of 2008--and to be entered in a drawing to win hundreds of dollars' worth of nominated products--in Christian Retailing's 2009 Retailers Choice Awards.

Voting is open to any store owner, manager, staff member or volunteer-who can vote just once. To vote, go to the Retailers Choice Awards Web site and click on the link to the ballot.

‘A Christmas Carol Special Edition’ coming Print Email

Capitalizing on the fall release of Disney's high-tech, 3-D version of Charles Dickens' classic yuletide tale, Standard Publishing will released A Christmas Carol Special Edition in September.

The new annotated version will include the complete text of the book with Christian insights and discussion questions for groups and families provided by author Stephen Skelton, whose previous work featured producing a best-selling, video-based Bible study series that included The Mayberry Bible Study and The Beverly Hillbillies Bible Study.

Hillsong United No. 2 on iTunes Print Email

Australian-based Hillsong United was ranked No. 2 this week on the iTunes Store Top 10 Albums Charts for the rock/worship band's latest CD, A Cross the Earth: Tear Down the Walls (Integrity Music).

A Cross the Earth was second only in digital music sales to Eminem's new CD, Relapse. Birthed from the youth ministry of Hillsong Church in Australia, Hillsong United is currently on tour in the U.S. through August.

Golden Scroll Awards finalists announced Print Email

The Advanced Writers & Speakers Association (AWSA) has announced the 2009 finalists for the Golden Scroll Awards, which recognizes the editors and publishing houses that best demonstrate outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors.

Publisher of the Year Award finalists are Bethany House (Baker Publishing Group), New Hope Publishers and Tyndale House Publishers. Editor of the Year finalists are Carolyn McCready (Harvest House Publishers), Kyle Duncan of (Bethany House) and David Kopp of (Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group). Fiction Editor of the Year finalists are Sue Brower (Zondervan), Jan Stob (Tyndale House) and David Lambert (Howard Books).

Defying current sales trends, Christian fiction continues to grow-offering a bright spot for retailers, publishers and readers during a bleak economy.

In the midst of the economic recession, some publishers are targeting growth while others are launching new fiction lines for the first time. They attribute the growth to consumers' desire to escape their day-to-day challenges-at a reasonable price.

DaySpring honored with ‘LOUIE’ Awards Print Email

DaySpring Cards recently won four trophies during the 21st annual International Greeting Card Awards competition, known as the "LOUIE" Awards.

A subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, DaySpring was the second runner up for Card of the Year for "Last Thing You Need," which won the Get Well/Feel Better card (below $3) category.

With the economy continuing in a tailspin, a growing number of Christian retailers are stepping up their efforts on the Internet to generate sales.

Embracing the cyberspace commerce that has been partly blamed for the demise of many mom-and-pop bookstores, some brick-and-mortar stores have converted to an online presence in order to stay in business.

Jason Crabb readies solo debut Print Email

Jason Crabb, vocalist for The Crabb Family and performer at the Grand Ole Opry and Brooklyn Tabernacle, releases his self-titled solo debut next month through Spring Hill Music.

Produced by Tommy Sims and Norro Wilson, the project features appearances by Vince Gill, Sonya Isaacs and members of the Gaither Vocal Band. Crabb also delivers his "signature song," "Through the Fire," written by his father, Gerald, and made popular in his time with the family group. "This is a song I will sing until God calls me home," he said. "I've sung it many nights trying to convince myself that He is going to take care of my situation."
