Christmas-program-book-Carpenters-SonCarpenter’s Son Publishing, a publishing imprint of Christian Book Services, announced Wednesday the launch of a new series of holiday-oriented program books. The first in the series, a line of Christmas program books, is now available through major wholesale distributors.

Each series includes dramas, poems, quotes and readings related to the season. The books come in three versions, one each for kids, youth and adults. Each 64-page book retails for $8.99.

planetshakers-groupPlanetshakers has partnered with Biblica and HarperCollins Christian Publishing to distribute Bibles and copies of the band's new album, #LETSGO, in the Philippines. The giveaway is part of Planetshakers’ larger event, Planetshakers LIVE!, to promote the new album release.

Planetshakers LIVE! is a 90-minute special that will broadcast live Monday, Sept. 21 at 8:30 p.m. EST on Daystar Television Network. The special is presented by Planetshakers, Daystar Television Network, Integrity Music and Church of God World Missions.

Moviegoers to participate in ‘Captive: Night of Purpose’ Print Email

CaptivePoster-webOne day prior to the theatrical release of Paramount Pictures’ Captive, moviegoers will gather in theaters for "Captive: Night of Purpose" to witness the dramatic true story of Ashley Smith and Brian Nichols. The event will take place Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in more than 50 markets around the U.S.

Attendees will enjoy a private showing of the film and an exclusive panel discussion hosted by Gayle King with cast members David Oyelowo (Selma) and Kate Mara (House of Cards), producer Terry Botwick, Ashley Smith and Brian Nichols' mother, Claritha Nichols.

In the webcast, Alcorn will share some of the findings that led him to write Happiness, the most extensive treatment of the subject to date following years of research. Contrary to claims that true happiness can only be experienced in heaven, Alcorn demonstrates that God promises us happiness in the here and now.

'90 Minutes,' 'War Room' make weekend top 10 Print Email

90-Minutes-in-HeavenWar Room continued its strong box office performance, while another Christian film—90 Minutes in Heaven—debuted in this weekend’s top 10 at the domestic box office. 

90 Minutes in Heaven, the motion picture debut from Giving Films, the movie production company of Family Christian Ministries, made more than $2.1 million  on 878 screens during its opening weekend. Distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films, the adaptation of Don Piper’s best-selling book (Revell/Baker Publishing Group) was the ninth-highest grossing film domestically, topping The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Ant-Man.

WarRoom-DavidWhitlowWar Room expanded to over 1,500 locations for the four-day Labor Day weekend and topped the domestic box office at $13.4 million, according to boxofficemojo.com. Released by Sony Pictures’ faith-based TriStar/Affirm Films label in partnership with Provident Films, War Room is the fifth film from brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick.

Word of mouth, media attention, grass-roots marketing and social media sharing continued to bring audiences to the theater for the film's second weekend.
