Today is the last chance for retailers to sign up for the first nationwide Christian Store Day, to be held Oct. 23.

Modeled after the successful Record Store Day that has championed independent music retailers in the past few years, the initiative to raise awareness of Christian retail stores will feature giveaways, in-store appearances and a $5 benefit CD to raise money for Compassion International, Samaritan's Purse and World Vision efforts in Haiti.

'Like Dandelion Dust' to premiere in theaters Print Email

Like Dandelion Dust--based on the 2006 Center Street novel by New York Times best-selling author Karen Kingsbury--will open nationwide in about 100 theaters tomorrow, Sept. 24.

Since January 2009 the winner of more than 35 film festival awards--including a dozen Audience Choice Awards for Best Picture, and recipient of the Heartland Truly Moving Picture Award--the movie may be "the next Blind Side," according to USA Weekend.

Another Third Day album goes gold Print Email

GRAMMY-winning band Third Day recently received its ninth overall Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) milestone with the Gold certification of the group's Revelation album (Essential Records/Provident-Integrity Distribution).

The RIAA Gold recognition represents more than 500,000 units sold of Revelation, released in July 2008.

Derek Schaaf--a former executive for CMC Distribution, once the largest Christian music distributor in Canada--has launched a company that offers a low-cost, customizable online-ticketing service for conference organizers, event planners and concert promoters.

YourTicketZone is offered free to event organizers, and customer-service fees have been kept to rates lower than industry standards.

Consumer confidence increased more than expected in August, pulled up by expectations of future economic activity, according to The Conference Board.

Meanwhile, back-to-school sales and tax-free holidays helped boost August's retail sales, which means merchants and industry watchers must wait for September sales to get a truer picture of whether the economy is rebounding, CNBC reported.

A "service first" emphasis is bearing fruit for stores reaching out beyond their four walls to their community.

Though efforts such as providing hospitality tents at festivals and fundraising for pro-life ministries and health clinics are not gimmicks to increase traffic, they have helped the businesses by raising their local profile and generating goodwill-and in some cases led to more sales.
