NPD: More consumers shopping before Thanksgiving Print Email

NPD-Group-logoMore consumers will begin their shopping earlier for the holidays, and a higher percentage of shopping will take place online, according to a new study from The NPD Group. Additionally, more growth is expected among the top categories purchased compared to last year.

Half of all holiday shoppers plan to start their shopping before Thanksgiving weekend, a 6 percent increase over 2014, according to NPD’s 2015 Holiday Purchase Intentions Survey. Regardless of when they begin, most shoppers plan to continue their holiday shopping into December.

Lisa-Stilwell-mugHoward Books announced Tuesday that Lisa Stilwell has joined the company as senior editor.

Stilwell’s 17-year history of book publishing began at Multnomah Publishers. She then joined HarperCollins Christian Publishing, where she worked with New York Times best-selling authors such as Max Lucado, Sarah Young, Charles Stanley, Billy Graham, Lee Strobel and David Jeremiah. She has also served as editor for Robert Morgan, O.S. Hawkins and Robert Morris, as well as for entertainers such as Matthew West and Steven Curtis Chapman.

Laughing-in-the-DarkChonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark was the No. 1 per-screen average in ticket sales and No. 5 movie in America on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The documentary premiered in select theaters across the country for a one-night-only cinema engagement, garnering sellouts in more than 125 theaters. The film will return to the big screen for a special encore showing Tuesday, Nov. 17.

JCB-T-BoxGroup Publishing's Jesus-Centered Bible is the best-selling specialty Bible in North America, according to CBA-reported sales data received from over 2,000 Christian retailers.

Released in September, the Jesus-Centered Bible offers a “blue letter” feature that references over 600 passages in the Old Testament that connect to passages relating to Jesus in the New Testament.

Promises-CSIChristian retailer Danni Schneidt-Hill hosted an unusual CSI sale event at Promises "His" Coffee & Cottage Shoppe in Malta, Montana, on Thursday evening, Oct. 29.

Schneidt-Hill told Christian Retailing the Crime Scene Investigation event as a “very fun, life-encouraging event.” She said it required little effort to launch but built awareness for the store and turned out to be a “super successful night.”

The latest LoyaltyOne consumer research tells U.S. retailers that customer service mistakes made with Cyber Monday online shoppers could lead to significant in-store sales losses in the 2015 holiday gift-buying season. 

In LoyaltyOne’s October nationwide survey of 1,019 American consumers, nearly half (47%) of Cyber Monday shoppers indicated they’ll be reluctant to make an in-store holiday season purchase from a retailer with whom they have an unhappy online experience the Monday after Thanksgiving.
