ECPA-top-shelf-winnersThe Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) honored 10 books and one Bible with Top Shelf Book Cover Awards. The 2015 awards were announced Monday at the opening session of ECPA’s Publishing University (PUBu), which was held Oct. 19-20 at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

Crossway topped the number of Top Shelf Awards received with three, while Zondervan and Baker Publishing Group both won two.

'Agents of Babylon' becomes 'New York Times' best-seller Print Email

agents-of-babylonDr. David Jeremiah’s Agents of Babylon (Tyndale House Publishers) debuted on the New York Times best-seller list for sales ending the week of Oct. 10. The title achieved No. 6 on the Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous list in its first week of release.

Known to many as the founder and host of Turning Point, Dr. Jeremiah also serves as senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, California.

‘Woodlawn’ debuts in weekend top 10 Print Email

Woodlawn-OfficialPosterWoodlawn debuted in theaters to strong reviews and expected box office performance. Early receipts estimate that the football-and-faith movie from Pure Flix made $4.1 million in 1,553 theaters, reaching No. 9 at the domestic box office.

The opening matched expectations for directors Andrew and Jon Erwin, whose last effort—Moms’ Night Out—debuted to similar numbers ($4.3 million on 1,044 screens). Moms' Night Out ultimately grossed $10.4 million.

Hillsong, MercyMe nominated for AMA Print Email

AMAs-2015-logoHillsong United and MercyMe were nominated for the American Music Award (AMA) in the Favorite Artist-Contemporary Inspirational category. Casting Crowns, whose nomination was covered previously. joined Hillsong United and MercyMe in the category.

The 2015 AMAs will be broadcast live Nov. 22 from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on ABC. The AMAs are a fan-voted award show with winners determined by votes cast online and via Twitter. Voting is now open, and fans can vote by clicking on the AMA site.

b-h-kids-logoB&H Kids, the children’s product division of B&H Publishing Group, said Friday it is enjoying a season of unmatched accomplishments, including sales growth, increased presence on national best-seller lists and the expansion of the division's marketing and editorial team.

Since 2014, B&H Kids has experienced more than 50 percent growth in revenue. Dan Lynch, publisher for B&H Kids, commented on the accomplishment.

Zonderkidz hires acquisition editors, marketing director Print Email

zonderkidz-logoZonderkidz, the children’s division at Zondervan, announced Friday the hiring of two acquisition editors and a senior marketing director.

Sara Bierling has been named acquisition editor overseeing Zonderkidz Bibles. Bierling joined Zondervan in November 2013, most recently serving as assistant editor for Zonderkidz. Her projects included Angels: A 90-Day Devotional About God’s Messengers and Prayers That Changed History. Bierling holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a writing emphasis from Hope College.

In an effort to better serve independent retailers and their customers, Crossway will guarantee all fulfillable orders received at its Wheaton, Illinois, office Mondays by 3 p.m. EST will arrive no later than Friday the same week. Orders placed Tuesday through Friday will be fulfilled by the next business day and shipped standard method.

Debora Coty cookbook chosen as Okra Pick Print Email

Too-Blessed-to-be-StressedBarbour Publishing announced Thursday that Debora M. Coty’s Too Blessed to be Stressed Cookbook has been selected as one of this season’s Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) Okra Picks. The book releases this November.

In a statement, Barbour Publishing said it “appreciates the hard work of its authors and would like to congratulate Debora Coty for earning this high achievement.”
