Mardel stores host Ben Carson Print Email

Ben-carson-at-mardelThe Mardel Christian retail chain hosted Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson at three of its stores on Oct. 21-23. Carson was promoting and signing copies of his new book, A More Perfect Union (Sentinel/Penguin Group).

The signings were hosted at Mardel locations in Edmond, Oklahoma; Springfield, Missouri; and Overland Park, Kansas. More than 8,000 in total came to see Carson. Each location averaged 2,000 people through the lines.

David C Cook bids on Gospel Light Print Email

GospelLight-BW-300dpiGospel Light lawyers have received two offers from David C Cook (DCC), according to The Wall Street Journal. The bids precede Tuesday’s bankruptcy auction for Gospel Light. Items to be sold at the auction include Sunday school curricula and the “What the Bible Is All About” line.

The Journal reports that David C Cook has offered $1.1 million for all of Gospel Light’s Sunday school materials and $50,000 for “What the Bible Is All About.”

B&H Storybook Bible debuts new translations Print Email

Big-Picture-Interactive-Bible-StorybookB&H Kids announced Friday two new translations for its best-selling The Big Picture Interactive Bible Storybook. The Spanish and Portuguese translations of the Bible storybook will release this month.

All three editions—English, Spanish and Portuguese—utilize an augmented reality app. Parents with Apple or Android devices can scan icons in the storybook to enable digital pop-ups. The image pops to life on the device with appropriate language narration from the Bible story.

Jack-kuhatschek-bakerBaker Publishing Group announced changes to its editorial department Wednesday. The company is instituting these changes with the retirement of Christian publishing veteran Jack Kuhatschek.

Kuhatschek came to Baker Publishing Group in 2005 as editorial director for the Baker Books division. Two years later he was promoted to executive vice president and publisher, where he has served for nearly eight years. While at Baker, he acquired best-selling authors David Kinnaman, Gabe Lyons and Kay Warren.

Regular Baptist appoints new director Print Email

john-klemRegular Baptist Press (RBP) announced the appointment of Dr. John F. Klem to the position of director. Klem's responsibilities will include providing oversight and direction for the press and networking for strategic ministry growth.

RBP described Klem’s approach as a “natural fit” with the publisher’s mission statement: “To glorify God by providing church educational resources that are true to God’s Word and encourage maturity in Christ.”

Gateway Worship debuts at No. 1 Print Email

gateway-worship-wallsGateway Worship’s sixth live recording, Walls (Fair Trade Services/Provident Distribution), debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Christian Albums Chart and at No. 33 on the Billboard 200 following its Oct. 2 release.

The album's placement marks the highest debut to date for Gateway Worship.

Pew: Fewer Americans read print books Print Email

61152406  iStockphoto-BraunS-webFewer Americans are reading books compared to last year, according to a recent study by Pew Research Center. Seventy-two percent of adults said they read at least one book in whole or in part in any format in the previous 12 months, a 5 percent decline from this time last year. This decline hurt print books the most; print readership dropped from 69 to 63 percent.

The e-book market remained relatively stable (28 percent in 2014 to 27 percent in 2015). The audiobook market experienced only a small decline, from 14 percent to 12 percent.
