The offices of Christian Retailing will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, but will reopen Monday, Nov. 30. There will be no Christian Retailing Update report Thursday.

The Jesus Cookie's specials for Christian retail stores are spotlighted in the Virtual Christmas Showcase, an online exhibition and training event hosted by Christian Retailing magazine and focused on the holiday season.

More than 20 suppliers--including Thomas Nelson International, Kregel Publications and Warner Press--have so far signed on for the Virtual Christmas Showcase. In addition to highlighting products and specials, the online event also includes interviews, new release spotlights and other offers. The virtual show has drawn nearly 1,900 unique visitors from 62 countries since it began Sept. 30, with 7,800-plus page views.

The Complete Love Comes Softly Collection--a compilation of eight films based on Janette Oke's "Love Comes Softly" series (Bethany House Publishers/Baker Publishing Group)--will be released on DVD Dec. 1 by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and distributed to Christian retail by Word Distribution.

The set--which includes Love Comes Softly, Love's Enduring Promise, Love's Long Journey, Love's Abiding Joy, Love's Unending Legacy, Love's Unfolding Dream, Love Takes Wing and Love Finds A Home--will retail for $99.98.

Pastor and author Billy Joe Daugherty dies Print Email

Billy Joe Daugherty, founding pastor of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Okla., and author of more than a dozen books, died yesterday after a short battle with lymphoma, Tulsa World reported. He was 57.

One of America's best-known charismatic pastors, Daugherty--whose books included No Fear: Praying the Promises of Protection, Knocked Down But Not Out and Raising Champion Children for God: How to Build Faith and Character Into Your Children (all Destiny Image Publishers)--was hospitalized in October with a viral infection in his throat when tests discovered the cancer.

Sister duo Mary Mary won the Contemporary Inspirational Favorite Artist category of the 37th annual American Music Awards (AMA), held last night in Los Angeles.

Mary Mary, who won Favorite Inspirational/Christian Contemporary Artist in 2005, has already been recognized this year with a GRAMMY, Dove Award and NAACP Image Award for the album The Sound (Columbia Records/Provident-Integrity Distribution).

Zondervan sells part of Youth Specialties Print Email

Zondervan is selling its events division of Youth Specialties, but will continue to hold publishing rights for the training ministry for youth pastors and leaders.

The acquisition by YouthWorks--a multidenominational group of ministries in more than 80 cities in the U.S. and Canada--is expected to be completed before the end of the year, Zondervan officials said. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
