Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Publishing's specials for Christian retail stores are spotlighted in the Virtual Christmas Showcase, an online exhibition and training event hosted by Christian Retailing magazine and focused on the holiday season.

More than 20 suppliers--including Thomas Nelson International, Kregel Publications and Warner Press--have so far signed on for the Virtual Christmas Showcase. In addition to highlighting products and specials, the online event also includes interviews, new release spotlights and other offers. The virtual show has drawn more than 3,300 visits from nearly 60 countries since it began Sept. 30, with 7,500-plus page views.

Latest '3-2-1 Penguins!' in Christian stores Print Email

The latest installment of Big Idea's popular children's animated series "3-2-1 Penguins!" was recently released. Featuring three new episodes-"Do Unto Brothers," "Oh, Mercy!" and "Between an Asteroid and a Hard Place"--3-2-1 Penguins!: Escape From Planet Hold-A-Grudge! released in Christian bookstores Oct. 20 through Word Distribution.

Teaching children lessons from the book of Proverbs about forgiveness, kindness and teamwork, space cadets Zidgel, Midgel, Fidgel and Kevin as well as brother and sister Jason and Michelle are trapped on an angry asteroid after falling into the Jelly Worm Hole.

Debbie Macomber's One Simple Act: Discovering the Power of Generosity (Howard Books) is to debut at No. 12 on the New York Times Hardcover Advice best-seller list for the week of Nov. 12.

Released earlier this month, the book is the first Howard title for Macomber--a New York Times best-selling novelist who has also done some nonfiction.

 
Bridge-Logos author Paul Meyer dies Print Email

Paul J. Meyer, author of 24 Keys That Bring Complete Success and Forgiveness...The Ultimate Miracle (both Bridge-Logos Foundation), died at his Waco, Texas home Oct. 26 while surrounded by his family. He was 81 and had battled cancer.

Meyer was a successful businessman, starting more than 150 companies, including Slight Edge Publishing and Success Motivation International, Bridge-Logos officials said.

Book fair 'a good learning experience' Print Email

The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's (ECPA) Christian Book Expo (CBE) presence at the Miami Book Fair International, at the weekend, was "a good learning experience," said the publishers' group President and CEO Mark Kuyper.

Kuyper and ECPA Director of Information and Education Michael Covington sold books from 10 Christian publishers under the CBE banner during the Friday-to-Sunday street fair--part of the 26th annual event, where the featured guests included Al Gore and musician Iggy Pop.

LaHaye to write new apocalyptic series Print Email

Zondervan has signed Tim LaHaye--co-author of the original blockbuster end-times thriller "Left Behind" series (Tyndale House Publishers)--to launch a new apocalyptic series.

Along with lawyer-author Craig Parshall, LaHaye will write Edge of Apocalypse, "an apocalyptic epic infused with political intrigue ripped from today's headlines." The first book in "The End" series, the prophecy-themed book will be released April 20, 2010, with a first printing of 500,000 copies, Zondervan officials said.

'Fireproof' follow-up about fatherhood Print Email

The makers of the surprise hit Fireproof (Provident Films/Provident-Integrity Distribution) will produce a film about fatherhood as their follow-up to the top independent movie release of 2008.

Officials for Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.--where Fireproof and their earlier films were created--made the announcement during last night's church service, which drew Christian media members who were flown in for the event.
